Educational offer

The Faculty of Animal Sciences and Biotechnologies provides high-quality education to students, aiming to develop them into skilled, well-trained, and critically thinking professionals able to work in the challenging conditions of the future world.

Our history and traditions

Animal science has a long history in Romania. Therefore, it was obvious that this field of study was incorporated in the program of the Manastur Agricultural Education Institute established in 1869. Following almost a century of changes, finally, the Faculty of Animal Sciences was born in 1968. After 1992, new fields of study were added, namely Agricultural and Food industry Biotechnologies, under its current name: Faculty of Animal Science and Biotechnologies.

Currently, the Faculty of Animal Science and Biotechnologies within USAMV Cluj-Napoca is a prestigious educational platform known and appreciated within Romania and abroad, for the quality of education, scientific research and the competence of its graduates.

The educational process

After joining the Bologna Process, the faculty has taken an important step on the path of curricular reform, with packages of optional courses and faculties, reduced number of weekly hours, introduction of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation system (ECTS) with transferable credits, diversification of knowledge assessment forms, stimulating individual study and scientific research performed by students. The students’ practical training is a top priority, using the Teaching Station, scientific research units, and partnerships with production units with private, state or mixed capital.

Scientific Research

The scientific research activity is performed in research centers and within competent research teams, which operate in the faculty’s departments. Research is funded by grants acquired in national and international competitions and through contracts with private companies.

The students in final years and students in a master’s program are co-opted in research teams, together with their teachers, in the effort to work on the contracted grants. They are also guided and supported in their own research activity (grants, diploma projects) by the academic staff of our faculty and have access to the entire research infrastructure.

The faculty has research and collaboration relations, bilateral agreements with universities from the USA, Italy, England, Ireland, France, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Moldova and Croatia.
